We have now finished erecting the Hennerwood passivhaus project in Herefordshire and installed the solid Lindab duct work into the frame.

The duct work was all pre-cut into the frame, with the duct designer working with the frame designer, so that alterations were made to the frame if they caused problems for the duct routes. This integrated approach, where everyone can see the model in 3D on google sketchup as it develops, makes a huge difference and ensures nothing is left to chance with the duct routes.

The design features a striking curved roof to match the Dutch barns in the farm yard - the follow on trades are now (July 2017) near finishing the zinc roof on this, with internal first fix works and window install going on now.

I was new to the concept of Passivhaus houses but after much research I decided that it made sense for our new home to be built to this high standard of energy efficiency. We chose Touchwood homes, who explained to us that their robust rigid external air-tight layer system, unlike  traditional sticky tape membrane systems, would not only guaranteee a passivhaus degree of air-tighness but would also, for the slight increase in initial costing, save me a fortune on the cost of follow-on trades who would have otherwise have to work around flimsy internal membranes. As a result I have seen for myself how quickly and efficiently the plumbers and electritians have been able to complete their work and how much time and money this has saved me already!
